Miguel Ponce de Leon is currently the Chief Technologist at the TSSG. Miguel has participated in a number of national and international research and innovation ICT projects, and has authored and co-authored papers in the research themes of future networking, communication network management, smart grid and living labs. Miguel has participated in a number of standards activities, from 2008-present he has been the TSSG representative to ETSI and TMForum, and on the Advisory Council of ISOC. Miguel has contributed to 3GPP SA5 Telecommunication Management working group and in the area of Lawful Interception.
Miguel has previously worked for Motorola Inc. joining them in 1996. Initally based in Motorola Cork, Miguel worked in the Network Sector on the (MSC)EMX2500 mobile switching center. This was used across the world in mobile analogue (AMPS) and mobile digital (CDMA) deployments.
In 1999 Miguel moved to Motorola Arlington Heights Illinois to work on the Aspira project.The first software system to carry out mobile VoIP calls over CDMA and GSM systems towards Netmeeting on the desktop.
In 2000 Miguel worked on the software development of SIP in the Motorola Aspira project.
The openRMC project is constructing software components for a real-time rich media services platform for the communications environment.
